ABC



Description:ABC is an interactive language originally designed as a replacement for BASIC. Characterized as an excellent teaching language, it is compared to Pascal, awk, and BASIC.
ABC runs on PCs, old Atari STs, old Macs (assumed System 9), and UNIX systems, including the Cygwin environment within MS Windows.
ABC is open source and non-profit. It runs natively in a Windows system. It is interpreted or compiled, but does not create stand-alone executables. It only has 5 data types.
It runs within a DOS terminal. It assumes that it is located in the directory C:\ Program Files\abc. The size of the folder is less than 1.5 MB. Debugger is unknown.

History: ABC was created by Leo Gurts, Lambert Meertens, and Steve Pemberton, at CWI, the Netherlands, in the 1990s. It currently is at version 1.05.02. It is said to have influenced development of Python. Last known version update was October 2003.

Applications: It is a general purpose programming language. Some programs include an adventure game, a grammar analysis, logic problem solving, and a version of the Eliza program.
