Beta

Description: Beta is an object oriented language developed in Denmark. It has procedural and functional programming facilities. It was inspired by (and has a similarity to) Simula.
BETA is available for UNIX and Windows, and it might run under Cygwin. I haven't tested that theory yet.

History: BETA language development first started in 1975, and currently has 4 people working on it. Current version number is 5.0.
The Mjolner System page under the Mjolner Informatics site below indicates that "there will be no future major releases of the system in its present form" (except for minor patches). They are focused on 3 major projects: implementations of BETA on .NET/CLR,on the JavaVM platform, and on the Eclipse system. The BETA language cannot be described as "dormant" therefore, but seems to be headed in a new direction.

Applications: No information has been found on this topic yet.
