PHP

Description:PHP is an interactive web scripting language used to develop dynamic web sites; it seems similar to ASP. PHP is often used in conjunction with MySQL and with the Apache web server.

History: PHP was originally written by Rasmus Lerdorf in 1994 and has been rewritten a couple of times since.
The current stable version is 5.1.1 .

Applications: The main use for PHP is for server-side web applications. Since it is cross-platform, it isn't as limited as the ASP language. It can also be used to write GUI applications.
PHP has many libraries and extensions to greatly increase its usefulness.
