Python

Description: Python, named after the Monty Python comedy troupe from the early 1970s, is a powerful programming language that has many uses.
The Python IDE, Idle, includes a debugger. There is a Java-based version called Jython.

History: Python is open source, and non-profit. A version is available thru ActiveState, but not really necessary. It runs native on Windows, or thru the Cygwin environment.
Current stable version is 2.5 .

Applications: Python is a general use language with lots of extensions; many applications exist, from games to web programs to other stuff.
