Description: Tcl/Tk (tool command language) was created and is developed by John Osterhout.
It is used to create graphic "widgets" that are combined into applications.
Tcl/Tk is open source. It is interpreted / compiled in a similar way to Perl. It is used with Perl and Python for web applications.
It is in the same field of work as GTK, the Gnome Tool Kit. The only native Windows version is via ActiveState, but Tcl is also available thru the Cygwin environment.
Apparently it isn't hard to write OO code in Tcl, although it isn't natively object-oriented.
History: Tcl was developed by John Ousterhout in 1988. Current version is 8.4.12 .
Applications: Tcl is used for dynamic web content, test automation, network and system management, and it's apparently the de facto standard for EDA and CAD applications.
